Description
2005 Perennial Plant of the Year 8″ tall x 18″ wide. Dianthus ‘Firewitch’ is superb for both its gray-blue foliage and its bouquet of single hot-pink flowers. Blooming in late spring, we use ‘Firewitch’ Garden Pinks to mix with plants that have “gray” or “silver” foliage. Marrubium rotundifolia, Achillea (Yarrow) and various Lavenders are good companion plants. The non-green leaves of these companions help to cool down the intense flower color of Dianthus ‘Firewitch’ and provide beautiful contrasting foliage when the flowers are gone. More xeric than many Dianthus, ‘Firewitch’ likes a lean, well drained soil with plenty of sunshine. Deadhead after flowering in early to mid summer. Good for Firescaping (Cutting propagated)
